Alex Taylor, the main character of Slathbog's Gold, by M.L. Forman, is just an ordinary boy, or so he thinks. One day, Alex is walking along Sildon Lane, when he spots a sign in the window of a small bookstore reading "Adventurers Wanted!". Out of curiousity Alex enters the shop, and signs up for an adventure he soon meets a dwarf and elf, and learns that there is magic. The adventure that he signed up for is to kill the dragon Slathbog the Red and claim his treasure, but is Alex up to the job?
