The Prophet of Yonwood
Jeanne DuPrau
289
“No sinners. No singing. No dogs. No words.” Those commands come from the “prophet” of Yonwood who, one day, was in her backyard when she had a sudden vision of the future. People tried to interpret what she said, and forced the other members of the town to listen to her, including tourists like Nickie Randolph, the main character of The Prophet of Yonwood, by Jeanne DuPrau. Will Nickie’s bravery and creativeness be enough to disprove the “prophet,” keep living in her grandfather’s old house, and keep a homeless girl and dog hidden upstairs?
